Bodegas y Viñedos Rauda

Inside the region of Castilla y León lies Roa, in the province of Burgos where, over 50 years ago, a group of grape growers from the area founded the winery Bodegas y Viñedos Rauda, one of the first wine-growing associations in Ribero del Duero.  Tempranillo is the only grape varietal cultivated in their 380 hectares of well-drained soil of sand and clay, with alternating limestone and calcareous layers and irrigated by the Duero river located  less than 900 meters above sea level. Their winery represents the perfect balance of tradition and technological expression evident in their wines made from grapes from vineyards averaging 50 years old. Their climate-controlled aging room contains Central European, French and American oak barrels of different toasts used in the aging of their Crianzas, Reservas and designer wines.

Tempranillo is considered as being native to Rioja and is perhaps the most highly esteemed varietal.  It gives the red wine of Rioja its characteristic flavor and has become one of the world's most interesting varietals.  The grape is often very sweet with low acidity which produces smooth, velvety wines with an intense color appropriate for immediate consumpion as well as for long term
