Rosso Piceno Superiore

“Picus”, the Latin word meaning woodpecker, considered by the Piceni to be a sacred bird and a symbol of civilization, was chosen as the name of this wine to honor the ancestry of this land and the two great grape varietals that make this beautiful wine possible. 60% Montepulciano and 40% Sangiovese specially selected, hand harvested grapes from the oldest vines are blended to produce this superior reserve. Traditional fermentation and maceration are done in stainless steel for a period of two weeks followed by 18-24 months aging in French oak casks.

Picus has an intense ruby red color and a rich taste of red berries and dark fruits, with nuances of cherries and sweet spices such as cinnamon and liquorice. It’s full bodied, and well balanced with a long finish. A perfect partner to red roasted meats, game and seasoned cheeses. Serve at room temperature.
